University of Georgia: assistant professor (biomechanics)


The Department of Kinesiology at the University of Georgia invites applications for a full-time, tenure track position at the assistant professor rank in the area of biomechanics to begin in August 2017.

The Department of Kinesiology has 26 full‐time faculty members and offers B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. programs in the academic areas of sport management, exercise science, and physical education. Department faculty members are nationally and internationally recognized for their scholarly accomplishments and teaching excellence. The Department has exceptional facilities in the Ramsey Center located on the main campus as well as on the university’s Gwinnett Campus that is adjacent to Atlanta. Responsibilities:

  •   Develop a nationally recognized research program based on the production of

    high quality research in any area of biomechanics.

  •   Pursue external funding to support research.
  •   Advise and mentor graduate students specializing in human movement

    biomechanics.

  •   Teach undergraduate and graduate human movement biomechanics courses
  •   Serve on department, college, and university committees.

    Required Qualifications:

    •   An earned doctorate (Ph.D. or equivalent) in biomechanics or a closely related

      field of research by August, 2017.

    •   Author or co-author of high quality biomechanics research published in peer-

      reviewed academic journals.

      Preferred Qualifications:

      •   Post-doctoral experience (or equivalent) of at least one year,
      •   Experience teaching at least one human movement biomechanics course,
      •   Received external funding for research or submitted at least one grant

        application aimed at obtaining external funding for research, or

      •   Musculoskeletal modeling expertise.

        •   Cover letter detailing credentials and experience to meet the responsibilities and

          qualifications for the position,

        •   Curriculum vitae,
        •   A statement of future research plans (2-page maximum),
        •   A statement of teaching abilities, approaches and interests (2-page maximum),

 Copies of two research articles.
