Assistant Professor in Health & Sport Science

The University of Dayton Department of Health and Sport Science is seeking applicants for a tenure-track assistant professor in the area of health and sport sciences. The department and UD offer a highly collaborative, interdisciplinary environment, where the incumbent has the opportunity to join a dynamic faculty that is committed to the development of competent and skilled future professionals.  Responsibilities include teaching, student advisement, leadership and service to the program, department, school, university and profession. Candidates who exhibit a commitment to diversity and equity through their teaching, scholarship, and service are encouraged to apply. Preference given to those who are able to teach in the following areas: kinesiology, biomechanics, and research methods. Consideration also given to those who are also able to teach in one or more of the following areas: epidemiology, public health or healthcare management. This position is full time beginning August 16, 2017.

The University of Dayton, founded in 1850 by the Society of Mary, is a top ten Catholic research university.  The University seeks outstanding, diverse faculty who value its mission and share its commitment to academic excellence in teaching, research, development of the whole person, leadership, and service in the local and global community.  The department currently has 500 undergraduate students in the following programs: exercise science and physiology, pre-physical therapy, dietetics, and sport management.

Required Qualifications:
ABD in the Health Sciences by Dec. 15, 2016;
Articulated ability to teach undergraduates in area of expertise;
Articulated potential to advise undergraduate and graduate students in research projects;
Articulated knowledge of and involvement in professional community;
Demonstrated ability to conduct publishable research for peer-reviewed journals;
Experience with university, school, and department activities, or engagement in community or professional service.
Effective written communication skills
 
Preferred Qualifications:
Earned terminal degree in area of expertise by August 16, 2017;
Demonstrated ability to teach graduate students in area of expertise;
Experience in curriculum and program review and program development;
Clinical and/or industry experience in area of experience;
Experience in academic advising and mentoring of undergraduate and graduate students;
Record of scholarly productivity including publications and professional presentations;
Demonstrated research agenda;
Demonstrated ability to work in a collaborative/collegial environment;
Effective oral communication skills;
Excellent interpersonal communication skills;
Willingness to engage in Quality Matters online training and course design;
Affinity for the values central to Marianist education including diversity and social justice.

Candidates should submit a letter of application addressing qualifications, accomplishments, and interest in the position; a curriculum vitae; informal transcripts of all coursework in area of expertise; if terminal degree has not been obtained, a letter from the candidate’s thesis adviser indicating status toward terminal degree.
